What with family commitments and poor weather, the finishing work on the baseboards has not been completed so far. So work has continued with the track formation and it is now ready for transferring to the baseboard when it gets finished. |
The complete formation with all the switch blades fitted. The gap in the track adjacent to the red Slaters box is for the point to the coal siding. This point will be built separately and fitted after the present formation is laid on the baseboard. The original intention was to build all the components of the formation individually and join them up on the baseboard but the complexities of sectioning and alignment forced me into building all the components of the scissors crossover as a whole. |
A closer shot of the two slips at the platform end of the scissors formation. There is still a bit of work to do to complete the pointwork - mainly adding a lot of cosmetic chairs to hide the use of PCB and brass strip in the point construction. However this work will await full testing of the track under running conditions in case any rail sections have to be lifted and adjusted (I hope not!!). |
The crossing section of the point leading to the goods loop. This point straddles the baseboard joint and the switch section of the point will be built separately and fitted on the other board. The rail ends at the baseboard join have been left rough and will be cleaned up when the rail ends are attached to their anchor points on the baseboard ends. The running rail in the foreground shows the start of the continuous check rail which will run the length of the platform road. The running rail and the check rail are laid with alternate chairs which is a quick and simple way to lay checks. The only drawback is applying cosmetic half chairs afterwards. |
