| I've been a bit busy at work so there has not been as much time to model as I would like but I've managed to squeeze some time none the less. |
The pointwork on the "station" board has now been completed including the two switch ends of the points which span the baseboard joint. The check rail on the platform road, which the Slaters underframe is sitting on, has also been completed. |
A general view of the "station" board now that all the trackwork has been completed. The next job is to apply fishplates to all the rail joints. By pre-bending all the rail before laying, all the rail joints at the moment are good with no fishplating. But, to allow for possible problems with expansion/contraction and transporting the layout, I will re-inforce all the rail joints with fishplates. |
| Later in the month, I've still been very busy at work so modelling has had to take a bit of a back seat, but I've managed to get a little progress never the less. |
The "station" board has now been stored and the "throat" board has now been set up in its place so that work can start on completing all the trackwork for the goods yard.Construction on the one last point on the layout has been started. |
A closer view of the point with its crossing nose in place and a start made on laying the other rails.Once more, I've not built the point "off the layout" since access was easy, and I had to ensure that it would fit accurately between the tracks already laid. I'm also having second thoughts about using foamboard as an underlay again. I've found that the thickness of the board can vary from one sample to another which means that some packing is required to match rail heights accurately. I assume that this is due to me buying my supplies in dribs and drabs over a period and that thicknesses in different batches can vary. Perhaps in future I should buy all my needs from one batch, or revert to using cork sheet. |
